Devon Air Ambulance Grand Summer Draw winners announced!

Added on: 12 October 2009

Mr and Mrs Martin of Sidmouth visited the Devon Air Ambulance airbase in Exeter recently, to be presented with a brand new red Mazda MX-5 soft top, the first prize in the charity’s annual Summer Draw.

Mr Martin said ‘We were shocked when we received the phone call to say that we had won the car.  In fact we didn’t believe it straight away, but we are truly delighted.  Sadly we only got a fleeting glance of the Air Ambulance, when it came back into base to re-fuel, before it went out again.  However as our daughter was airlifted a year ago, after breaking her ankle badly, in a remote location, we have been invited back as a family to visit, and hopefully to see the helicopter at close quarters.  We are truly grateful to the service for their help 12 months ago and support it whenever we can.’

Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust said ‘The charity is proud to have worked once again in partnership with Peter Vosper and Vospers Mazda with regard to this fantastic prize.   Over £68,000 of tickets was sold, and this would not have been possible without their support, for which we are truly grateful.   We would also like to congratulate Mr and Mrs Martin on their windfall.’

Summer Draw 2009 WinnersLisa Robins from Plymouth also got a pleasant surprise, when she received a call to say that she had won second prize in the summer draw; a fantastic weekend at the prestigious Bovey Castle.  Even more so, because she didn’t remember buying a ticket!  In fact mum Angie Harrall of Tavistock had bought the tickets, but put her family members’ names on them.  Lisa however is going to share the prize with her mum and dad, and the family plan to take their break, worth in excess of £2,000, in the near future.

Mum Angie explains ‘When Lisa rang and told me that she had won the second prize in the Air Ambulance draw I was delighted, but commented that she thought it was a bit odd, as she couldn’t remember buying a ticket.  When I explained that I had put her name on a ticket I had bought, she decided to make it a family weekend away, and I am very much looking forward to this.  The Devon Air Ambulance is an essential part of the community, and hopefully none of us will need it, but it is reassuring to know that if we do, it’s there for us all.’

Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust added ‘Congratulations to Lisa, Angie and the family on winning our second prize.  We hope they have a fantastic luxurious break at Bovey Castle.  It’s such a beautiful location, and we are sure they will have a great time.  We would also like to add our thanks to Bovey Castle, who are also supporting us as their ‘Charity of the Year’.  Both of our corporate supporters, and indeed everyone who has bought a ticket should be extremely proud in knowing that they have helped to raise over £68,000!  We are very proud of our supporters for this achievement.’
