Spare a thought for the emergency services on 999 day
Devon Air Ambulance Trust heads up awareness day
An unique day takes place on Wednesday 9th September 2009 because the date is 999 – Emergency Day!
Heléna Holt, Chief Executive of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust said ‘We realised at the beginning of the year that this special date was one that it was important to keep in our diary. A day when we can highlight and put to the forefront the positive work that not only the Devon Air Ambulance does, but also the essential work of our fellow emergency services colleagues.
‘We would like to add that although our colleagues of the RNLI and Coastguards were not present at the photo shoot, they also play a pivotal role in the day to day 999 operations of the emergency services in this county, and indeed further afield.’
‘Of course the Devon Air Ambulance is as unique as the date, because although operated as part of the emergency services, we are funded directly by the people and businesses of Devon that we are here to help.’
Attending a special multi-service photo shoot at the Devon Air Ambulance Trust’s airbase at Middlemoor, Exeter (a shared facility with the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary’s Air Support Unit) was a fire appliance from Exeter Station (Devon Fire Rescue), Police landrover and 4 motorbikes (Devon & Cornwall Constabulary), together with an ambulance (South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust), who also manage the day to day deployment of the Air Ambulance on behalf of the charity.
No vehicles were taken off line to take part in this photo call.
Ken Wenman, Chief Executive of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said ‘We are extremely proud of all our staff and the essential services they provide, and are pleased to have forged a positive relationship with our fellow emergency services colleagues. This dedicated day is an excellent way to showcase the good work being carried out by the emergency services locally and we are pleased to be a part of it.”
