Running the Two Moors Way in Memory of Moddie

A hiking challenge in memory of a beloved mum and former patient.

A group of friends are taking on a 103-mile run across Dartmoor and Exmoor, raising funds for Devon Air Ambulance in memory of a much-loved mum who never forgot the care she received.

On 28 May (2026), Luke Edward and a team of his friends, Ben Harris, Tom Carlyle, Sam Head and Edward Fane Trefusis, will set off from Ivybridge to take on an extraordinary challenge: running the full 103 miles of the Two Moors Way, crossing both Dartmoor and Exmoor, aiming to reach Lynmouth within three days. Along the route, they’ll also be joined by Sam Hockenhull.

They are undertaking this challenge in memory of Moddie Lambert, Luke’s much-loved mum who died in September 2025 after 17 months of living with pancreatic cancer. Throughout her illness, Moddie showed remarkable courage and positivity, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Luke said:

Although Mum ultimately died of pancreatic cancer, the Devon Air Ambulance held a very special place in her heart. Around five years ago, following a riding accident, she was airlifted to hospital by the DAA crew. The care she received was exceptional and she never forgot it.

This run is a deeply personal way for her family and friends to honour her memory while supporting a cause that meant so much to her.

The response so far has been remarkable. What began as a hope to raise a few thousand pounds has grown into something much bigger, with the team already surpassing £18,000 in donations, part of which is a significant contribution from a family trust, given in recognition of Moddie’s impact, but the overwhelming support from individuals, messages of encouragement and shared stories has meant just as much.

With no set fundraising target, the team are simply focused on raising as much as possible to support the life-saving work of Devon Air Ambulance, a service that relies entirely on public generosity.

Every mile they run is a tribute to Moddie, and every donation helps ensure the Devon Air Ambulance crew can continue to be there for others when they’re needed most.
