Volunteering: You can. It counts.

Make your time count — for you and for your community

Are you 18–30 and looking to do something that works for you?

You don’t need loads of spare time and you don’t need experience; only a little willingness to help when you can.

Whether you’re studying, working, raising a family, caring for others, looking for work, taking time out, or simply exploring what’s next, if you’re 18-30, volunteering can help you to develop new skills, meet people, and discover new opportunities.

Our Base Crew Flex programme is designed to be flexible and accessible, fitting around your other commitments. Decide how much time you can give, while gaining practical skills, building confidence, becoming part of a supportive community and developing experience that can support your future goals.

Why get involved?

Volunteering isn’t just about what you give, it’s also about what you gain. By volunteering you will become part of a welcoming and diverse community where you can:

  • Gain skills that help you stand out in work, education, and life.
  • Grow your confidence and improve your mental wellbeing through meaningful experiences.
  • Make friends and build connections with people who share your interests and values.
  • Develop teamwork, communication and skills that employers look for.
  • Give back to your community and make a real difference to people’s lives.
  • Fit volunteering around your lifestyle with flexible opportunities and no long-term commitment.
  • Be part of something bigger while discovering new interests, experiences and opportunities.
  • Create time for yourself, connect with others and build a sense of belonging in your local community.
  • Gain valuable life experience and develop skills that can help you in parenting, relationships, work and everyday life.

There’s no single volunteering role, just choose when and how you would like to help. You might help support fundraising events, or get involved behind the scenes using skills you already have but want to apply or develop further.

Volunteering is flexible – there is no rota and no fixed commitment: choose to do a little, or offer a bit more – either way it means a lot.

No previous experience is needed for most opportunities. We’ll provide guidance and support so you can get involved in a way that feels comfortable and rewarding.

You could get involved at one of our community events, helping to create welcoming experiences for participants, supporters and local families. From preparing event materials to greeting attendees and supporting activities on the day, it’s a great way to meet new people, build connections and be part of your local community.

If retail is more your thing, you can support one of our charity shops by sorting donations, creating displays or serving customers. By helping to give pre-loved items a second life, you’ll play an important role in promoting sustainability, reducing waste and supporting a circular economy, all while raising funds for an important cause.

Perhaps you’ve got a creative streak. Whether it’s photography, content creation or helping to showcase donated items for sale online, your talents can help us tell powerful stories and reach more people.

There are also opportunities to support our teams through research projects that can be carried out remotely. Whether assisting with campaign research, gathering information to support fundraising initiatives or contributing to communications projects, these flexible roles can help build valuable skills while fitting around your other commitments.

The great thing about joining our Base Crew Flex is there’s no single volunteering role. Instead, there are lots of opportunities to choose from, so you can find something that matches your interests, skills and goals.

Volunteering can help you build confidence, gain experience, develop practical skills and strengthen your future opportunities. For many people, it can also support career development:

  • 94% of employees who volunteered to learn a new skill had benefited either by getting their first job, improving their salary, or being promoted*.
  • 73% of employers would employ candidates with volunteering experience over those without.*
  • 85% of managers are willing to overlook minor CV gaps when a candidate shows volunteering experience.**

You’ll be part of something meaningful. Every hour you give helps support a life-saving service.

Behind every mission there’s a team ensuring our crew are ready to respond, and you could be among them, making a difference, connecting you to a wider purpose, and allowing you to give back to your community.

To put you in control of your volunteering journey we use the Volunteero app.

Volunteero makes it simple to get involved when it works for you, allowing you to view available opportunities, sign up for opportunities that suit your schedule, manage your availability, and keep track of your volunteering activity – all in one place.

You’ll receive updates, access important information, and stay connected with the wider volunteer community, all from your phone. It’s a flexible, accessible way to volunteer.
