Feeling confident about helping in an emergency situation can mean the difference between life and death for someone in cardiac arrest.

A person can go into cardiac arrest anywhere, and a lot of the time that happens outside the hospital environment, which is why it’s important that those who are nearby know what to do while they await the arrival of medical help.

Right now, over a third of adults don’t know how to help, but together, we can change that.

If you encounter someone having cardiac arrest outside a hospital environment, their chance of survival is just 8%. But if you use CPR and a defibrillator in the first 3-5 minutes of their incident, you could boost their chance of survival to 50-70%

That’s the difference a calm response, a little knowledge, and the confidence to act can make.

What you’ll learn

A cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, to anyone. Knowing what to do could save a life. Learn the skills, gain the confidence, and act when every second counts. Through our community training, you’ll learn:

  • To recognise cardiac arrest
  • To perform CPR
  • To use a defibrillator
  • To act with confidence
  • How to act quickly and safely

Training takes place in a supportive and friendly environment and is led by a skilled community engagement team. You don’t need any experience to take part. Sessions are friendly, practical and delivered in your community.

At the training session you’ll learn hands-on skills and complete your session feeling confident to act.

Could you become a community engagement volunteer?

We are looking for more people to help support community CPR & defibrillator training sessions. If you have the knowledge and would like to help more people to gain lifesaving skills, then we would like to hear from you.

That was the most informative session and I for one feel much more confident about using a defib appliance should the need arise…
