Mark with Jennie the Helicopter costume

By Mark Hawley, Aircrew/Paramedic

On Sunday 13 October I survived (and finished!) the Great West Run (half marathon) with “Jennie” the helicopter as my running companion in a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and in just over 2 weeks I have managed to raise just over £300!

I have to say due to the extra weight I was carrying, the fact I couldn’t see further than 3 feet in front of me, it was boiling hot inside the costume, and I had less than 3 weeks training in my legs, it was one...

Mia Swim Blog No 2

Posted by on August 14th 2013 in Events, Fundraising

So what’s been happening on the training front since my first blog, you may ask?

Well – quite a lot!

Since my last (and first) entry on the blog here, I got my lovely colleague, Lou, on board with the swim – and it’s great!

Besides the benefit of having someone to share your swimming antics and excitement about the up-coming (and what will essentially, for both of us, be our “maiden”) sea swim with, Lou has brought with her some un-relenting enthusiasm and great knowledge on different swimming techniques for long-distance free-styling.

While we await the arrival of...

Kidz First Aid support

Guest blogger:  Katie Finn, Kidz First Aid

I am a paediatric nurse and after many enjoyable years of working in Paediatric A&E settings I realised that first aid information specific to children’s emergency procedures is not easily obtainable for parents so I decided to go it alone and set up Kidz First Aid. My aim is to give parents peace of mind and confidence, so they know what to do if things go wrong.

To spread the word of my courses I decided to exhibit at a baby fair but felt I needed to have a product on offer...

Therapy Works South West visit DAAT HQ

Posted by on March 18th 2013 in Fundraising

By Sarah Collier, Therapy Works South West

Devon Air Ambulance Trust provide an invaluable service and we thought the DAAT staff could probably do with some attention themselves. We /Therapy Works South West arrived at the Exeter head office to a warm welcome and set up our special massage chairs in a pleasant office space sandwiched between two busy meeting rooms. Some of the 14 members of staff we saw had never had any kind of massage before and didn’t know what to expect from Seated Acupressure Massage- their 30 minute appointment convinced them of the benefits! In fact,...

Thanks for your support

Posted by on December 19th 2012 in Fundraising

As 2012 draws to a close we wanted to use our blog as an opportunity to say thank you for the support received during 2012.  We also thought it would be a good opportunity to share with you the link to download our Helipad magazine which we are extremely proud of.  Here’s the link to the Winter 2012 edition of Helipad.

Thinking back, over the past year, our mind goes back to Christmas Day 2011 when our crews attended to three year old Freddie. Whilst mum Andrea was busy cooking for the family lunch, the children were upstairs playing.  Freddie...

Not just charity shops - our roots in the community!

Posted by on November 30th 2012 in Fundraising

I am so proud of our shops.  My role as Retail Manager, supporting and developing Devon Air Ambulances’ 11 shops all over Devon, is rewarding, occasionally challenging and always diverse.

Our shops are a great way of staying in touch with our supporters and volunteers.  Even in the current climate, we have had a great year thanks to plenty of donations and lots of regular shoppers.

With more and more donors signing up for Gift Aid on their unwanted goods we have generated a staggering £40,000 rebate from the tax man this year.  Amazing!

Good stock is of great...
