Why volunteer?

Are you someone who loves talking to people or has experience in public speaking? Then this is the perfect role for you! As a speaker volunteer, you’ll share the story of Devon Air Ambulance with communities across the county, inspiring others and hearing heartfelt stories along the way. It’s one of the most rewarding volunteering roles you’ll ever have.

Every talk you give helps keep Devon’s air ambulances flying. You’ll help people understand the vital role we play in saving lives across Devon – turning your words into real impact for patients and their families. Your time and passion directly support our ability to respond when every second counts..

What activities?

You’ll represent Devon Air Ambulance at community groups, clubs, schools, and gatherings, delivering engaging presentations, receiving donations, and sharing key facts about our service. You’ll help people discover the many ways they can get involved, from volunteering to fundraising, and play a key role in “spreading the word” about our work. We’ll provide a presentation kit (“Talk Box”) and all the support you need to make your sessions shine. Tasks include:

  • Delivering a presentation of around 45 minutes (not necessary for cheque presentations – brief thank you with key facts and figures)
  • Share your insights and passion for DAA at local events
  • Sourcing new local groups and opportunities
  • Processing donations

When?

This is a flexible role that can easily fit around your lifestyle and commitments. Talks and cheque presentations generally take place throughout the week, often during the day but sometimes in the evening. Every talk makes a difference, helping raise awareness and vital funds that keep our helicopters and critical care cars ready to respond across Devon.

What we offer

You’ll join a warm, supportive team of like-minded people who share your enthusiasm for making a difference. We’ll provide full training, induction, and opportunities to shadow experienced speakers until you feel confident. You’ll also enjoy:

  • The chance to develop your public speaking and communication skills
  • A friendly and rewarding volunteer community
  • Invitations to volunteer events
  • Experience that looks great on your CV
  • Ongoing support from both the Fundraising and Volunteer Team
  • Reasonable out of pocket expenses in line with our volunteer expenses policy

Your time is precious and by volunteering just a few hours, you’ll be helping to save lives in your local community.
