The Devon Cycle Challenge offers three levels of challenge across East Devon… find the one fit for you
The Devon Air Ambulance Cycle Challenge brings together cyclists of every ability for a journey through some of the county’s most striking landscapes.
With three different length routes named to reflect the spirit of each challenge, this event invites cyclists to set their own pace, push personal boundaries and ride for a local cause.
Explore the challenge levels
The Legend route covers 100 miles, offering an epic test of endurance. Ideal for cyclists with good levels of fitness who enjoy long distances and sustained effort, the route rewards determination with expansive views, demanding climbs and the rewards that come from completing this undulating physical challenge.
The Heroic route meanwhile spans 50 miles and is great for riders who have put in the training and are ready to stretch themselves, this mid‑distance route offers some challenging climbs and rewarding views plus the enjoyment of navigating stunning Devon landscapes.
The Explorer route extends for 30 miles and is a welcoming entry point for less frequent cyclists or as a first cycle event. With a gentler pace and a relaxed atmosphere, it focuses on the social and enjoyment aspects of cycling and the simple pleasure of riding through East Devon countryside.
Discover the best of Devon along the route
Each route follows a carefully planned circular loop starting at Winslade Manor, taking riders through East Devon, with the longer routes extending to the Blackdown Hills and neighbouring stretches of Somerset. Expect rolling countryside, quiet roads and wide‑open views that make the effort worthwhile with plenty of opportunity to pause and take in the scenery in the company of fellow riders.
Who is each route perfect for?
The Legend route suits confident cyclists seeking a long‑distance goal that demands fitness, preparation and cycle experience.
The Heroic route appeals to riders who enjoy a meaningful challenge that fits around work, family and regular training.
The Explorer route welcomes beginners, social riders and supporters who want to be part of the event without tackling a full‑day ride.
Each option offers the same warm welcome, professional support and finish‑line celebration, creating a shared experience across all distances.
Pedalling to power our service
Our Devon Cycle Challenge is an enjoyable way to help our crew continue to respond to patients facing time-critical situations.
