Help in our offices There are plenty of ways to help at our Exeter office Expand We have several volunteering opportunities at our head office based in Pinhoe, Exeter. You might like to help us on reception welcoming our visitors, support with various admin in our different departments or help us to prepare for our three largest fundraising events. Occasionally, we also need help in our counting room where collection boxes from fundraisers around the county are returned to us to process. Some of our head office volunteers have gone on to secure permanent roles with us and are still working with us decades later! Attend events & promote the work of the charity There are many opportunities to talk to people about our charity Expand Especially in the Spring and Summer months there are many different fundraising events taking place throughout Devon. Helping to run a stall alongside other volunteers can be great fun and a pleasant day out meeting people and talking to them about our life saving service. This all helps to spread the word and promote the work that we do. Register your interest in volunteering! Give talks Do you enjoy holding the attention of an audience? Expand You don’t have to be a great speechwriter to deliver one of our talks, just someone who is interested in being an ambassador for the charity. Talks are often requested by small community groups, as well as schools. Our volunteers take along an interesting and informative PowerPoint presentation that helps to promote our work, encourage support from local people and raise money. Although everyone has their own style, initially we will always buddy you up with an existing speaker to help you to see how the presentation can be delivered. Register your interest in volunteering
Support our main fundraising events as a One-Off event volunteer Help out at one of our three biggest annual events Expand We host 3 high-profile events each year on a pretty large scale and these require the support of many volunteers. You may be an existing volunteer who would like to get involved or join us as a One-off Event Volunteer. Events are great fun and popular with the public, so it’s a great way to support the charity in a lively and informal setting. Our 3 biggest events are: Motorcycle Ride Out Dragon Boat Festival Royal Marines Commando Challenge Register your interest in volunteeringBe a one-off event volunteer Left: Volunteers David Roberts, Rory Blair, Lesley Roberts and Pete Mason.
Drive our van between shops to deliver stock Here's a great way to get out and about while volunteering Expand We are often in need of keen drivers' mates to help move our stock donations between our 19 shops on a weekly basis. Because our shops are like a community hub, you might also take along collection buckets and display banners for people holding fundraising events for us. By travelling around the county, you will meet a lot of people. If you have some spare time, like being out and about and prefer not to stay in one place for too long, this is the ideal volunteering role for you! Register your interest here
Service DAA collection boxes It's amazing how a little loose change can go such a long way Expand We are lucky to have over 4200 red collection boxes permanently sited at many different outlets throughout the county from holiday parks to shops and post offices. In 2019 the total collected in small change was an incredible £190,000. We ask our box collectors to service each of their boxes at least twice a year to ensure there’s always room in the box for more donations. This role is very flexible and can easily fit in around your own free time. Register your interest in volunteering Request a collection box for your business or organisation
Help in one of our charity shops We have 19 shops in Devon that are always looking for support Expand Each of our 19 charity shops has a manager and an assistant manager, but it is down to the support of our retail volunteers that make them so successful. We depend upon volunteers to welcome customers, help sort through and rotate donations, arrange displays, steam and press clothing and many more essential tasks needed to keep the stores looking great. Volunteering in a Devon Air Ambulance charity shop is a sociable activity and you are right at the heart of the local community. Customers are likely to approach you to find out more about us and to ask questions, so you are in a perfect position to be an ambassador for the charity and spread the word about our life saving service.
