The portraits taken by North Devon Photographer, Paul Martin, will exhibit until the end of 2025.

Devon Air Ambulance is inviting visitors to Exeter Library to experience a powerful and moving exhibition which reveals the people behind the charity’s lifesaving missions.

Hosted at the Exeter Library throughout December, It’s Who We Are offers a rare glimpse into the courage, compassion, and skill of the crew who respond to emergencies across Devon.

The exhibition features striking portraits donated by North Devon photographer, Paul Martin, alongside deeply personal and moving stories from pilots and paramedics, which show the human side of critical care. These are not just tales of trauma and rescue; they are reflections on teamwork, resilience, and the small, meaningful moments that define the crew’s work.

Having already visited north Devon earlier in the autumn, the exhibition launches in Exeter with a lunchtime talk in the library foyer. Director of Public Engagement at Devon Air Ambulance, Matthew Bell, who will be opening the exhibition, said:

Whether you’re a long-time supporter or simply curious about the work of Devon Air Ambulance, this exhibition is a chance to find out more about the people who make a difference when it matters most.

‘Come along, be inspired, and discover why It’s Who We Are is more than just a series of portraits; it’s a celebration of community, critical care, and the extraordinary individuals who serve Devon every day.’

Alex Kittow, Chief Executive Officer at Libraries Unlimited, said:

‘This is a very special exhibition to showcase the pilots and paramedics who do incredible work at Devon Air Ambulance. Their portraits and stories are an opportunity to see the people behind the helicopters and we are proud to be hosting this in Exeter Library.’

We look forward to welcoming the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Anne Jobson, who will attend the lunchtime talk which opens the Exeter exhibition.

The exhibition will run from midday, Monday 8th December through to the end of the year. The lunchtime talk will be held in the Exeter Library foyer from 12.30. No booking necessary – just turn up.
