Carol’s efforts have helped to fund 2 lifesaving missions

Carol willoughby joined the team at Exeter Race Day as a volunteer (November 2025). Here she was presented with Exeter Chiefs tickets kindly donated by DCW, A Suez Waste company as a thank you for her prize-winning efforts as one of our hardworking box collectors.

Carol has single-handedly banked over £10,000 this year in box collection income and her efforts have now funded more than two lifesaving missions. We asked her a couple of questions about her volunteering experience.

How does it feel to volunteer at Devon Air Ambulance?

Very good – satisfying, humbling. I’m part of a team where I’m welcomed and appreciated. Everyone looks after each other and there is a lot of support from staff. I never feel alone.

What do you like about box collecting?

Knowing that I can help money go into the charity that makes a direct impact. I chat to box holders who often host boxes because they know people who have needed the service. I love chatting and hearing people’s stories.

How do you feel knowing you’ve banked over £10,000 this year – enough to fund two life saving missions?

Disbelief, chuffed and proud! I met someone recently that our crews helped. It’s so special to know people like him are still here because of our charity and that my volunteering helps to sustain the service.

What would you tell others about volunteering for Devon Air Ambulance?

Go for it! It’s a great place to be a part of. Everyone treats each other like equals; even Greg, our CEO, knows me by name. By volunteering you are helping patients, families, bystanders and everyone whose lives the services touches.

How does it feel to get the Chiefs tickets!

So excited! So nice to feel so appreciated by everyone.
