Information for executors

Managing the estate of a loved one can be challenging. This information for executors could help.

If you are a relative or friend managing the estate of a loved one we recognise that this can be a particularly challenging time.

The following information might provide a starting point for you as a lay executor undertaking your responsibilities to the kind person who has chosen to remember Devon Air Ambulance in their Will.

As an Executor, you have been entrusted with the important responsibility of managing the affairs of a loved one, friend, or client who has passed away. This role signifies the high regard in which they held you.

If this is your first time serving as an executor, there are numerous resources available to assist you.

We recommend visiting the Citizen’s Advice website for general guidance.

Additionally, the Public Records Office offers a Wills and Probate Checklist that you may find useful, which can be downloaded from their website.

For executors handling gifts left to charities, the Institute of Legacy Management provides specific guidance. You can access their comprehensive Guide for Executors and a Document Checklist for Executors on their website.

To ensure the charity named in the Will is the correct one, you can confirm our details by visiting the Charity Commission. Devon Air Ambulance Trust is a charity registered in England and Wales (1077998). Company No. 3855746.

Contact details for executors are: [email protected] or you can call us on 01392 466666.

We would be grateful if you might inform us promptly if a gift has been left to Devon Air Ambulance. As well as allowing us to assist you, we also wish to thank you for your role as Executor and to extend our sincere gratitude to the family and friends involved. Every gift helps us continue our vital air ambulance services.

We will also ensure the deceased’s name is removed from our mailing lists to prevent any distress.

We understand that settling an Estate can take time. Please keep us updated as matters progress, especially when the Grant of Probate is issued.

When you are ready to pass on the special legacy gift, please contact us by email [email protected], or by telephone on 01392 466666. When we liaise with you directly it helps us to assign the gift to the correct giver. We would also like to have your contact details so we can confirm safe receipt and the discharge of our legacy under the Will for your Executor records.

We kindly request that you provide us with a copy of the Will clause related to the gift to Devon Air Ambulance once probate has been granted or when you are ready to make the payment. This documentation is essential for us to verify our entitlement to the funds with our auditors and to ensure that we honor any specific wishes the legator had regarding the use of their legacy.

When you are prepared to make the gift, please refer to the instructions provided above on how to process a legacy gift payment. This will help us acknowledge the contribution appropriately and ensure it is used in accordance with the legator’s intentions.

When you start administering the Estate, please send us a copy of the Will and a Schedule of the Assets and Liabilities.

If multiple charities are named in the Will, we often collaborate with them to minimise your correspondence and streamline the process.

When you are ready to make the gift, please provide the Executor’s statement of account, detailing all transactions and the amount payable to Devon Air Ambulance.

Please contact us and speak to one of our team if you have any questions about this aspect of a legacy gift by emailing [email protected], or by telephone on 01392 466666
