News Latest news Top chef, Michael Caines, judges banger comp in support of Devon Air Ambulance Brothers, Michael and James Dart; Darts Farm Head Chef, Paul Matthews; Master Butcher, Alastair David, and Devon Air Ambulance representatives, Caroline Creer and Sarah Burden, formed the hungry judging panel headed by popular two-Michelin star chef and patron of Lympstone Manor, Michael Caines. Dozens submitted entries to the competition, with some very wacky and wonderful flavour suggestions, but it was the Devon Devil sausage (a tasty combination of pork, apple, cider and Crediton Quickes Cheese), that topped the taste test. The winner, Debbie Norton, will receive a pack of her winning sausages every week for the next year, while her Devon Devil sizzler will be on sale at The Butchers at Darts Farm and Fermoys in Newton Abbot for that time too, with £1 from every pound in weight sold going towards Devon’s air ambulances. It was a tough decision,’ says DAA Fundraising and Communications Director, Caroline Creer. ‘But after some serious sampling the judging panel was unanimous. We had a great time tasting the delicious shortlisted flavour combinations and we’re delighted not only by such a worthy winner, but also by the enthusiastic response we had to this competition. Big thanks to The Butchers at Dance Farm for the initiative. The two highly-commended runners up, the Herby Hen and the Pig in a Pear Tree, made for some tough competition, but their creators needn’t be too disappointed at missing out on top prize as all entrants to the competition can expect to receive a voucher for six sausages of their choice from the Butchers at Darts Farm counter.
