News Latest news Devon Doctor Duo completes 3,000 mile Atlantic row They’ve arrived! The Doctor Duo from Devon complete their 3,000 mile row across the Atlantic Ocean! Everyone at Devon Air Ambulance is celebrating an amazing feat completed by two incredible Doctors from Devon! Adam and Charlie Fleury, the only husband and wife team in the Talisker Whisky Challenge have just completed an incredible journey across the Atlantic Ocean to raise funds for four of their most treasured charities. Departing from San Sebastian in La Gomera in the Canary Islands last December, the pair have rowed around 1.5 million strokes, battled all that mother nature sent their way from huge waves to flat calm and searing heat to reach the finish line at English Harbour in Antigua. Persistence, or Percy for short; a 24ft Rannoch R25 ocean rowing boat has carried them safely on their way and after 51 days, 3 hours and 4 minutes, they arrived, still smiling and still married! Darren Goodwin, Operations Manager at Devon Air Ambulance said: We are incredibly proud and absolutely thrilled for the amazing Emergensea Duo, Charlie & Adam, previously PHEM Fellowes here at DAA, they set out on this epic row across the Atlantic Ocean to raise funds for DAA, RNLI, RD&E Charity and Mind. Their friends and colleagues have followed their progress throughout the journey, cheering them on through all they have endured. On board the boat for almost 8 weeks and burning up to 5,000 calories per day, Adam and Charlie have had to stay fit, healthy and strong enough to withstand the physical endurance that this task demanded, but they are no strangers to physical challenge and adventure; Adam has previously completed the renowned Ironman challenge, mountain biking competitions, ultramarathons and even worked in the Costa Rican jungle, and Charlie spent a year out in New Zealand enabling her to work as a medic at a range of events such as national rugby games, motor-cross and downhill mountain biking competitions. The dynamic duo will most likely be taking a well-earned rest from rowing for a while and will be looking forward to spending some time with their friends and family now their feet are firmly back on dry land. If you would like to donate to the Emergensea Duo, you still can. Donate to any one of Adam & Charlie’s chosen charities.
