The Royal Marines Commando Challenge Event Village is back for a second year in support of the challenge and it’s busier than ever.

The free-to-attend Event Village at Bicton Arena will be open to supporters, families and friends of recruits participating in the 5k or 10k obstacle courses over the weekend of 12-13 October, with a host of new attractions, stalls, vendors and activities as well as some of last year’s attractions.

Live music

Once more the service personnel based at the Hasler Naval Recovery Centre, where some of the most seriously injured marines receive life-changing treatment, return with live music to keep the Commando Challenge crowds entertained.

All the action from the course

Thanks to live footage from the course on the big screen, friends, family and visitors to the Event Village can feel involved in supporting this year’s entrants as they take on the notorious challenges - in particular the infamous Sheep Dip; a submerged culvert bookended by Royal Marines who assist with their dunking.

While entrants may find themselves scrabbling across some of the course on all fours, our four-legged friends will be entering the popular Dog Show on Saturday, supported by Corner House Vets. With several categories to enter, event goers can bring their canine companions to join in the fun with entries available on the day.

Bring along the kids

Kids - and kids at heart - will also be kept entertained by activities that include an inflatable obstacle course, the Royal Marines climbing wall, the Creation Station, mini golf course, camo face-painting, inflatable dart board and football zorbs.

There will also be stalls to browse, from charity stands and the Royal Marines shop, to gift and active-wear stalls such as BBCuriodities and Ruby Fury respectively, and food and drink will be available.

We’re really looking forward to the carnival atmosphere of the Event Village again this year,’ says Royal Marines Commando Challenge spokesperson, Caroline Creer. ‘It is an important fundraiser for two charities: RMA - The Royal Marines Charity, and Devon Air Ambulance, so we are grateful to all those businesses who support the event and to our main sponsors, Punch in particular.

There’s still time to enlist in this year’s Commando Challenge by visiting the Commando Challenge website and further vendors will be added to the Events Village as October approaches.
