In the first week of July (2018) the Brealey family has hosted the Keith Brealey Memorial event at ISCA Pétanque Club in Exeter in aid of both Devon Air Ambulance and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The family organised a day’s pétanque, which comprised 3 skill-based competitions over the lunch break and a raffle with donations from pétanque players and other clubs across the county.

Thierry Hacq from Chudleigh won the “shoot the egg” competition. Ann-Marie Stanley, also from Chudleigh, came top in the Shooting event and host Rob Brealey had a well-deserved win in the pointing competition.

There was a more serious competition too, with 13 pairs each trying to win the day. Qualifying leagues during the morning left 8 teams to fight out for the main competition and the remaining 5 teams played for the plate trophy. This was won by the ISCA team of Marion Jones and Kunihiko Kanasaki who had a tough struggle against Mike and Cilla Franks from East Devon Pétanque Club, eventually overcoming them 13 – 10.

The main competition was no less hard-fought with the two skills event winners of Thierry Hacq and Ann-Marie Stanley overcoming all their opposition to reach the final against John and Rose Thatcher from Ottery St Mary Pétanque Club. This was very competitive with Thierry and Ann-Marie leading for most of the game and even scoring 5 points at one end! But John and Rose stuck to it and eventually managed to score the 13th point to win 13-10.

The weather helped out on the day with temperatures in the high 20’s but the events managed to raise £350 that will be donated between both air ambulance charities who look after the southwest.

In total, the club has raised over £2000 for Devon Air Ambulance since 2012.
