Volunteering saves lives

The Devon Air Ambulance is currently looking for people to join their volunteering family.

Cara Jones, Volunteer Manager for Devon Air Ambulance said “Our volunteers are an invaluable part of our team and ensure we remain truly rooted in the community we serve. If you have a couple of hours to spare, we would love to hear from you. We appreciate you may have other commitments so we welcome flexible volunteers who do not need to commit to a minimum amount of time.”

She added “We have a variety of rolls to suit everyone such as, box collecting, giving talks, attending cheque...

When volunteering pays off

When volunteering pays off

Margaret and Jeff Lilley are volunteers in Totnes who have been donating their time to the DAA since Feb 2015. Little did they know that two years later the Devon Air Ambulance would be airlifting their 8-year-old grandson Ryan Lilley to Derriford Hospital following a scooter accident.

Margaret originally started volunteering at our Totnes shop after seeing a poster at the local hospice she worked at and thought it might be a nice way to meet new people. When Jeff retired from his 43 years in road maintenance he joined the volunteer team too. They both agree...

Cara Jones, Volunteer Manager

Devon Air Ambulance would once again like to take an opportunity to promote its ‘Supporter Promise’ at the same time as welcoming new Volunteer Manager, Cara Jones (pictured right), to its team to support over 430 amazing volunteers.

After receiving questions on whether it pays its volunteers a cut of monies they collect, Fundraising Director Caroline Creer says “All our amazing volunteers donate their time and efforts day in, day out.  They could be attending events, working in one of our 17 charity shops, collecting boxes or picking up a cheque at a presentation.”

She added “We’ve been asked a lot recently if we pay commission...

Volunteering boosts Bob's self confidence

After suffering an industrial injury in 1999 that left him with a severe back problem, life for Bob looked pretty bleak.

Bob Wood was living in Manchester at the time and had just completed a five-year apprenticeship as an engineer. But the accident caused tendon, nerve and ligament damage, along with three popped discs in his spine, leaving Bob unable to continue in his job and out of work for eight long years.

In 2002, Bob was registered as disabled and later that year, during a respite break in Devon, Bob decided to relocate.  In 2003 he and his family moved to...

A Nightmare at Arlington

A Nightmare at Arlington - supporting Devon Air Ambulance Trust

At sun set on the 24th of October the North Devon Road Runners will be hosting what we believe to be the country’s first ever Halloween themed head torch run which will take place around the grounds of the 200 year old National Trust property Arlington Court which is about 8 miles north of Barnstaple in North Devon. We will be offering two distances; the shorter fun route is The 5k Of Fear and the longer scary route for the braver runners is The 10K of Terror. Both routes will have...

Why you should Volunteer in a Charity Shop!

Why you should Volunteer in a Charity Shop!

An email came around the office from our Exmouth Charity Shop, desperate for help in the shop.  Being an ‘office worker’, working at a shop is quite different – you’re on your feet all day, getting dusty and dirty (definitely not a good idea to wear a suit), you have to have your toes covered for health & safety reasons so no flip flops allowed, and you absolutely must wear flats.  I tried helping at a shop in heels once, never again…

So I told the shop Manager I would help and her response was “MEL!!!! That’s brill, thank you soooo...

Its National Volunteers Week Next Week

The Devon Air Ambulance Trust are planning many exciting events to celebrate Volunteers’ Week this year.

Volunteer Coordinator Rosey Oakes said “We have hundreds of volunteers beavering away across the county and they play a crucial role in keeping our two helicopters flying.  National Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to say thank you to them – so we’re having tea parties, special window displays and a special  invitation-only visit to our Airbase to meet the crew!

We are always looking for new volunteers and currently need people to help in various roles across Devon.  Every volunteer is invaluable to us, so if...
