Night Flying and Community Landings

This time of year the nights are drawing in, but we’re delighted to say that the Devon Air Ambulance service won’t be! Thanks to the help of communities and organisations across Devon, we are now able to start flying into the hours of darkness. So, why is night flying important and how has it been achieved?

Why Night Flying?

Devon Air Ambulance has been operating for over 20 years, helping people in need of urgent medical support who often can’t be reached quickly enough by road. Our air ambulances can reach people across the whole of Devon in just minutes, even in...

Air Ambulance challenges Devon businesses to tame the dragons

Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) is to hold its third Dragon Boat Festival on the River Exe on Sunday 25 September and is calling on businesses across the county to enter this colourful and exciting team event.

Boats with their traditional Chinese dragon mastheads hold 16-18 kayak-style paddlers, plus a helmsman to steer and a drummer to pace the crew.  They race in heats along the spectator-friendly Exeter Quayside until two are left to compete in the final.

DAA Fundraising Director Caroline Creer said: “It’s a noisy and frenetic spectacle with lots of drum-banging, splashing and shouting as teams urge their crewmates on....

Bake off for take off

Fundraisers at Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) are anticipating that National Air Ambulance Week later this month will be a good time to take advantage of the country’s current obsession with baking.

The Charity has launched its own ‘Bake off for take off’ campaign encouraging supporters to get into the kitchen, break out the flour, eggs, icing sugar and piping bags and get baking for a good cause.

Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director at DAA said: “We always want fundraising efforts to be fun and what better way to enjoy yourself while making money than trying your hand at baking.  The huge success of...

BBC Casualty 30th anniversary episode

Posted by on August 27th 2016 in General charity, General discussion

Tonight BBC One’s popular medical drama ‘Casualty’ will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a special feature length edition.  This programme will show an air ambulance crashing into the emergency department after a drone hits the tail rotor.

The scenes/storyline are of course produced for dramatic effect. However, Devon Air Ambulance is very aware of the increase in the popularity and use of drones. This increase is a concern for the aviation industry as some people may be unaware of the rules regarding the flying of drones or, in some cases, ignoring them completely. Drones should never be flown near another aircraft,...
