South West Highways health & safety reporting results in £916 donation to Devon Air Ambulance

South West Highways, the Exeter based highway maintenance, civil engineering and building contractor, has donated a record £916 to Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) following its annual campaign to improve health and safety across the business.

The company has pledged to donate £1 for every Safety, Health, Environment or Quality (SHEQ) event (otherwise known as ‘near misses’) reported by employees. SWH recognises the link between the number of SHEQ events reported and a reduction in health and safety incidents and issues monthly updates to employees and reminders to continue to report events throughout the year.

Devon Air Ambulance chosen as beneficiary as families of the crew of RAF Liberator FK242 place a memorial on Dartmoor

On 8th April 2017, the families of the crew of a RAF bomber will dedicate a memorial to the 7 airmen at the site where it crashed on Dartmoor. Liberator FK242 from 224 Squadron, RAF Coastal Command, crashed at Plaster Down near Horrabridge on 30th October 1942.

Returning from the Bay of Biscay, the bomber struck a barrage balloon cable over Plymouth and was badly damaged. Diverted to make an emergency landing at Harrowbeer, the airfield by Yelverton, the aircraft was unable to get down safely and crashed 2 miles away.

Six of the crew died and the sole survivor,...

Ann Ralli and the team at Devon Air Ambulance

On the 8th March 2017, it’s International Women’s Day, which celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women across the world. At Devon Air Ambulance, we’re looking forward to celebrating the achievements of the women across our team, all the way from hard-working volunteers to the senior leadership team!

However, in the lead up to International Women’s Day, we’d like to honour one woman who is of special importance to the charity: the founder of Devon Air Ambulance, Ann Rali. Without Ann’s tireless work to raise funds for an air ambulance in Devon, we might not be operating the...

Beware of door to door collectors

Beware of door to door collectors

Over the past couple of days we've had phone calls from supporters in Exmouth and Honiton who have had a man knock on their door purporting to be from their 'local air ambulance'.

Devon Air Ambulance doesn't authorise anyone (including our lottery canvassers) to go door to door on behalf of the Charity.

We would ask anyone who is approached to firstly not part with any personal or financial information.

Secondly please could you report it to the Police by either completing the online form or ringing 101.

Please quote Police Crime Reference: IN/024502/17 so that all reportings can be filed together.

Flying feathers raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance

Exeter Racecourse’s annual Clydesdale race, traditionally held every year on Devon Day, has raised nearly £5000 for Devon Air Ambulance.

The feathers were flying as Dartmoor’s famous racing Clydesdales came thundering down the home straight ridden by professional jockeys last November.

Noel Fehily, Aiden Coleman, James Best, Daryl Jacob, Tom Bellamy and Sean Bowen were on board the gentle giants with the eventual winner Midge.

“It’s a great cause, a good bit of fun and it’s great for the people that brought their horses here – well done to them. I’m delighted that such a significant amount has been...
