As part of National Air Ambulance week (NAAW), from 11 to 17 September Devon Air Ambulance is looking for your support! This annual event helps to raise awareness about the vital and lifesaving work that is carried out by air ambulances across the UK, with charities like ours receiving additional support from local communities, businesses and individuals.
This year, Devon Air Ambulance is inviting our supporters to hold their very own Be a Hero day.
Devon Air Ambulance’s Be a Hero Day is a great way to fundraise, whether it’s in your school, college or business. To get involved, all you need to do is pick your favorite super hero, sports hero, or celebrity icon, get your costume ready and prepare to Be a Hero for a day! All funds that are raised will enable us to continue providing our lifesaving service to the people of Devon.
Stuck for ideas? We’ve listed our top five super hero costume ideas to give you some inspiration:
If you want to go for a classic, then it’s got to be Superman. There are plenty of off-the-peg costumes out there but if you want to make your own interpretation, you just need to grab some tights, pants, dust down an old pair of curtains to make yourself a cape and then you’re up, up and away.
4. Iron Man
If you’re a big fan of the Marvel movies, then why not go for the Avengers’ poster boy, Iron Man? If you’re building this one from scratch, we recommend scavenging as many cardboard boxes as you can find and stocking up on the duct tape.
3. Wonder Woman
She was a big hit at the cinema this summer, so you could do a lot worse that Wonder Woman. If you’re intending to come to the party as this empowering female icon, just don’t forget to craft yourself a suitable lasso to complete the look.
If you fancy yourself as a comedian then Spider-Man could be your perfect alter-ego. The red and blue onesie could be a challenging costume to recreate but luckily the recent blockbuster with Tom Holland should ensure there are plenty of accessories out there to help you to perfect the webslinger’s look.
1. Unleash your Super Powers!
What’s in our top spot? How about something brand new! Why not really let your creativity loose by coming up with something entirely unique? You could start by thinking of what kind of super power you’ve always wanted and take it from there. Always wanted super strength? Super speed more your thing? Or maybe you could try dressing up as a real-life superhero? You don’t just have to dress up as comic-book hero, you could be a real-life superhero. You could be a firefighter, a police officer or what about an air ambulance pilot or paramedic?
The only limit is your imagination. Don’t let yourself be held back by the contents of your closet either, our local charity shops can be a gold mine for materials that are just waiting for a second lease of life.
So, what are you waiting for? The events are due to run between the 11th and 17th of September, so if you would like to run your own event, please get in touch with us or visit the Be a Hero day webpage for more information.
