The infamous Ilfracombe Rotary Club's StarTrek Charity Night Walk is returns in March 2017!

The infamous Ilfracombe Rotary Club’s StarTrek Charity Night Walk returns on the weekend of March 4 and 5 and this year the local charities supported will be Children’s Hospice South West, North Devon Hospice and Devon Air Ambulance.

This exhilarating event involves teams of 4-6 people finding their way overnight around a secret route in the heart of Exmoor. Paul Williams from Ilfracombe Rotary said: ‘We can’t believe that 2017 will be the 25th year of this very worthwhile challenge. Over the years we have raised in excess of £800,000 for local charities and we’re delighted to be once again supporting our local children’s and adult hospices, as well as the much needed Devon Air Ambulance.’

StarTrek is not a race but more a test of initiative, stamina and team building. Participants can choose between an 8 or 16 mile course, and knowledge of map and compass reading is essential as the route includes trekking across moorland.

With support on the night of the Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs, Raynet assisted search and rescue and St John’s Ambulance, the trek is completely safe and all trekkers will be rewarded with freshly cooked refreshments on the morning.

Devon Air Ambulance’s Fundraising Director Caroline Creer added ‘We are extremely excited to be involved with this year’s StarTrek Charity Night Walk and we would like to thank the Ilfracombe Rotary for choosing to support Devon Air Ambulance. This year we also celebrate 25 years of service and we are keen to team up with organisations and events celebrating 25 years throughout 2017. We have no doubt that the StarTrek Night Walk will be a brilliant and challenging event, we would like to encourage our supporters to sign up and we also look forward to welcoming lots of new supporters through the event.’

Emma Perry, senior fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West has participated in the Trek for the last three years and her team has also collected the winning trophy twice. She said: ‘StarTrek is one of the most exhilarating and challenging experiences I have ever had. The Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs organise an absolutely fantastic event and the fact that it is supporting local charities makes it a privilege to be part of.’
