Dave meets DAA team

For Dave Farr, of West Charleton near Kingsbridge, 15th February always brings back memories.  And this year it will be 10 years since Dave suffered a life-changing accident.

Dave was working for a steel erecting company at the time and he and his colleagues were moving some steel shuttering at a farm near Whimple when things went horrifically wrong. A sheet of the shuttering destabilised and fell, almost ‘cutting Dave in half’. The loss of blood was immediate and, as Dave collapsed, his colleagues called for immediate help.

The farmer had also witnessed the emergency and stressed to the 999 call-taker the...

Beware of door to door collectors

Beware of door to door collectors

Over the past couple of days we've had phone calls from supporters in Exmouth and Honiton who have had a man knock on their door purporting to be from their 'local air ambulance'.

Devon Air Ambulance doesn't authorise anyone (including our lottery canvassers) to go door to door on behalf of the Charity.

We would ask anyone who is approached to firstly not part with any personal or financial information.

Secondly please could you report it to the Police by either completing the online form or ringing 101.

Please quote Police Crime Reference: IN/024502/17 so that all reportings can be filed together.

Flying feathers raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance

Exeter Racecourse’s annual Clydesdale race, traditionally held every year on Devon Day, has raised nearly £5000 for Devon Air Ambulance.

The feathers were flying as Dartmoor’s famous racing Clydesdales came thundering down the home straight ridden by professional jockeys last November.

Noel Fehily, Aiden Coleman, James Best, Daryl Jacob, Tom Bellamy and Sean Bowen were on board the gentle giants with the eventual winner Midge.

“It’s a great cause, a good bit of fun and it’s great for the people that brought their horses here – well done to them. I’m delighted that such a significant amount has been...

Love Your Air Ambulance

Love Your Air Ambulance

It can be easy to be cynical about Valentine’s Day, as we’re bombarded on television and in shops with crass, commercial gifts. However, if we treat it as a reminder for us to cherish the important people in our lives – partners, children and friends – then it’s a great opportunity to give thanks to the partnerships that matter most in our lives.

The Parkhouse Family

In 2011, the Parkhouse family had one of the most terrifying experiences of their lives, when Matthew had to be air lifted to Bristol hospital by Devon Air Ambulance.

Matthew’s Dad said, “We’ll never forget that day”....

Volunteering boosts Bob's self confidence

After suffering an industrial injury in 1999 that left him with a severe back problem, life for Bob looked pretty bleak.

Bob Wood was living in Manchester at the time and had just completed a five-year apprenticeship as an engineer. But the accident caused tendon, nerve and ligament damage, along with three popped discs in his spine, leaving Bob unable to continue in his job and out of work for eight long years.

In 2002, Bob was registered as disabled and later that year, during a respite break in Devon, Bob decided to relocate.  In 2003 he and his family moved to...

Tom Backhouse walks wild for Devon Air Ambulance

Throughout 2017 our supporter Tom Backhouse will be walking the length of the 15 UK National Parks to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance. Tom was inspired to fundraise for Devon Air Ambulance after his sister Kate was airlifted in 2016.

In Tom's own words:

The past 12 months has been one of changing perspectives. Difficult times personally and professionally culminated in learning things about myself and what makes me feel fulfilled and successful. Growing up, if you were to ask me what the benefits of owning your business were, I would of very likely replied 'power and money', however,...

In addition, Helpful Holidays raised further funds through a charity Cricket Match held at Chagford Cricket Club in the summer of 2016, in which DAA employees Dave Hawes and Afnan Tellesy competed against the Helpful Holiday team.
