On Sunday 5th June 2016 Devon Air Ambulance’s annual One Mile Sea Swim returns to Paignton and there is still time for participants to register. The swim will start at 2pm and registration will be open from 12:30pm on the day.
This is the sixth year Devon Air Ambulance has organised this successful event in conjunction with Torbay Surf Life Saving Club and the event is looking set to be a fantastic day with over 50 swimmers already registered.
So have you got what it takes to take on the open elements and support two local charities?
This event is raising vital funds for Devon Air Ambulance as they extend their service to operate until midnight as of autumn this year. Devon Air Ambulance are proud to be independent of Government and National Lottery funding and rely on the generous support of the people, businesses and communities of Devon to enable the Trust to continue to provide this much needed service and ensure patients receive the best possible care and have the best chance of survival.
Torbay Surf Life Saving Club is a fully affiliated member of Surf Life Saving Great Britain (SLSGB), the national charity of five thousand volunteer beach lifesavers. Through a network of Surf Life Saving Clubs the charity provides opportunities to learn about water safety, become a qualified lifesaver and compete in Life Saving Sport. The Torbay Surf Life Saving Club aims to fill a gap to make the beaches of Torbay safer and to make people living and holidaying in Torbay fitter and safer.
Devon Air Ambulance’s Fundraising Director Caroline Creer stated “We unfortunately had to postpone the swim from last September due to adverse weather conditions so it’s been a long time coming, as the event gets ever nearer we are really excited for the day. It’s so great that the swimmers who signed up to take part last September are still eager to support us and take part this June, and really fantastic that we’ve had an influx of new swimmers sign up this year too. We hope to see even more swimmers register over the next couple of weeks as well as on the day.”
So if you want to test your endurance and take on the elements then what are you waiting for? Register online today for just £20.
Spectators are encouraged to attend the afternoon and support the swimmers at this beautiful beach set within the stunning English Riviera.
Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances the route for this event has changed from what was originally advertised; the swim will now be a circular route starting and finishing at Goodrington Beach, Paignton. Swimmers can also register on the day.
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for good weather!
