Organised by Plymouth based heart charity Heartswell, the Heartswell 100 cycling event provides two cycling routes, 50km and 100km, that take you through some of Devon’s most stunning countryside.
This cycling event is a fun charity bike ride and whilst it has been established to raise funds to help heart patients and their families in the South West, Heartswell have kindly opened up the event for cyclists to choose to support Devon Air Ambulance.
With steep hills, thigh-burning climbs and sprints, the 100km challenging ride is not for the faint-hearted and will really test your endurance. If you’ve got what it takes you will make your way from Plymouth to the outskirts of Dartmoor to Newton Abbot before riding onto moorland, passing through Postbridge, Two Bridges, Princetown, Burrator and Cadover Bridge.
For those fairly new to cycling events the 50km is for you. Whilst still challenging it is more suitable for the amateur cyclist; Beginning at Elburton, the 50km ride takes you past Plymouth Golf Centre up to Plympton, continuing the climb you will reach Lee Moor before dropping down and riding alongside the scenic Newpark Wood to Cornwood. You will then pass through Ivybridge, Ugborough, and Ermington, and the trail will take you back to Elburton.
Devon Air Ambulance’s Fundraising Director Caroline Creer stated “We are so grateful that Heartswell have offered the opportunity for participants to be able to support Devon Air Ambulance through this brilliant event. We’re sure the day will be a huge success and it’s so fantastic to be able to collaborate with another local charity.”
The event kicks off at 9am with both routes starting from Elburton Villa Football Club, Haye Road, Plymouth, Devon, PL9 8HS. Registration open from 08:30am.
Tickets cost £25 for the 100km route and £20 for the 50km, with proceeds going towards helping heart patients and services in Plymouth and the surrounding areas. Upon registration you can select Devon Air Ambulance and raise sponsorship for us! Devon Air Ambulance can provide you with necessary support material to promote your fundraising and assist you with setting up an online giving page; please email Peggie to discuss this.
