A Nightmare at Arlington - supporting Devon Air Ambulance Trust
At sun set on the 24th of October the North Devon Road Runners will be hosting what we believe to be the country’s first ever Halloween themed head torch run which will take place around the grounds of the 200 year old National Trust property Arlington Court which is about 8 miles north of Barnstaple in North Devon. We will be offering two distances; the shorter fun route is The 5k Of Fear and the longer scary route for the braver runners is The 10K of Terror. Both routes will have glow sticks illuminating the course for you to follow as well as signs and marshals. The National Trust will be offering tasty a meal which has to be pre booked when entering the race online or lighter refreshment will be available across the counter on the evening. Fancy dress is highly recommended to help make this a fun and memorable evening.
After a brief safety briefing in front of the stately home the Ghost of Arlington will be summoned to get the run started. The runners will set off from outside the Manor House and then pass the old church and grave yard before they head in to the dark woods. Now once in the woods the fun will start to be experienced with witches, ghost, and other friendly spooks roaming freely on the trails giving you all the encouragement and entertainment you need to keep running. At about 2.5km mark the runners will make it to the spooky setting of Tuckers bridge where the 5k runners will cross to start their return leg home but the 10k runners carry straight on to experience the Terror. The 10k of Terror will be far more sinister and feature Killer clowns , Freddy Cougar, Mad axe men, executioner, ghouls, half-life’s and of course the zombie vicars who will be handing out un-holy water at the drinks station. If you are easily frightened go around with a friend because these creatures will be jumping out at you when you least expect it. When the 10k runners make it back to Tuckers bridge they will join the 5 k runners on the last 2.5 k of The Fear run which is scary but not terrifying. There will be attack zombies released after the start to chase the runners and the Grim Sweeper will be the last around the course.
All runners will have to wear working head torches to start the race for obvious reason. We will have a limited supply of head torches and batteries for sale but please do not rely on us and bring your own. Also there is a minimum age limit of 18 for people to enter the race but families are more than welcome to come along and spectate, enjoy the food, participate in face painting or roast marsh mallows in the Nation trust’s fire pit.
YOU MUST HAVE HEAD TORCH AND BE OVER 18 TO ENTER
