The Rotary Club of Totnes are hosting their 5th annual Longboat Canoe Festival on Sunday 12th July at Longmarsh. Partnered with Canoe Adventures and DartTotnes ARC, the Rotary are proud to offer this fantastic family event for another exciting year.
240 sponsored paddlers will take to the River Dart, as crews of 10 contest heats for a coveted place in the final races. Crowds line the banks in enthusiastic support, surrounded by side-shows, refreshment stalls and entertainment. Sumo Wrestling, Hat McKool magic, Rowlands Cup ‘n Saucer Rides, Inflatafun Bouncy Castle, and Professor HARGRAVE Punch ‘n Judy are all part of the variety of activities for children while Desperate Measures Jazz Band, Totnes Town Band, and Bridgetown Brewery Licensed Bar at the DartTotnes ARC Club House are just some of the attractions for adults. This summer day out has something for every member of the family to enjoy.
At its core, the event is about charity. Organiser Derek Meacher says, “2015 sees our 5th annual community event, which offers free fun for all the family while fundraising for local and international charities of the Rotary Club’s choice and those of the sponsored canoeists”. Totnes Rotary Club has chosen 8 charities to fundraise for from July 2015 through to June of the following year. One of these charities is Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director at Devon Air Ambulance Trust, says “We are thrilled to be one of Totnes Rotary Club’s chosen charities of the year. The Club has supported the Charity for over a decade now, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their continued generosity”.
The Longbow Canoe Festival runs from 10am to 6pm. Entry is free to all who attend. For more information, visit: http://www.totnescanoefest.co.uk/
