Celebrated acoustic musician, Steve Knightley, kicked off his 2015 Grow your own Gig tour at Newton St Cyres Parish Hall in aid of Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) on 15th January. Organised by Exeter Eastgate Rotary Club, the gig contributed to the Rotary’s fundraising, as they have chosen DAAT as their Charity they wish to support during their President’s year.
Nicola Baker, President of Exeter Eastgate said, “It was truly an amazing evening and a brilliant way to promote the work of DAAT & Rotary”.
The lively evening not only included the music, but also a raffle, a bar serving Yellowhammer from nearby brewery Hanlons, and homemade cakes and refreshments, courtesy of club members & Nicola’s husband Michael. Steve’s set was diverse, playing his own songs, Show of Hands favourites, and a little bit of Bob Dylan in between. Audience participation created an electrifying atmosphere throughout the entire event, and riotous applause greeted the encore tune, ‘Now You Know’, another Show of Hands classic.
After the set finished, Steve was on hand to sign CDs and merchandise and available to chat with the fans who came out to see him. The concert was a success and raised just over £800 for the Charity.
Caroline Creer, Director of Fundraising, says, “The Charity would like to thank Exeter Eastgate Rotary Club for organising the event and making a fantastic start to their year of fundraising. We of course extend our gratitude to Steve Knightley for making the show a hit!”
