On the evening of 7 October, Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) and Tozers Solicitors LLP got together some of their Great West Run 2014 participants for a meet and greet at DAAT’s Exeter Airbase. Tozers are sponsoring this year’s event and DAAT are the local Charity partner. Tozers runners are also supporting DAAT as part of larger fundraising efforts as their Charity of the Year.
DAAT organised the evening to give the runners an opportunity to learn more about the service they are supporting and to meet their fellow teammates before race day.
Nigel Hare, Operations Director at Devon Air Ambulance Trust, gave the group an insight into what the service does on a daily basis; flying missions and delivering life-saving treatment across the county and beyond. This was followed by a look around the helicopter, and a photo opportunity as a team.
Kelly Forrester, one of DAAT’s Charity runners, said, “Being part of the group running for sponsorship in aid of Devon Air Ambulance Trust, and being invited to meet everyone including the other runners was a great experience. I had a lovely time and it left me with a great sense of being part of a team, working hard to raise money for this amazing charity. We had the opportunity to go to the aircraft hangar, and take a look at the helicopter; we also met with some of the staff who kindly gave us their time explaining what Devon Air Ambulance was about and how our money goes such a long way in saving lives. It was a fantastic opportunity and set us up ready to run the Great West Run, a half marathon that will be making a difference.”
Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director at Devon Air Ambulance Trust, spoke to the runners about the Charity and gave fundraising advice as they tackle their sponsorship along with their last minute training. “We have a fabulous group of runners, who are so eager to give back to the community. Their dedication to the Charity is astounding, coupled with their diligence to training for the event; they are a great group to have as part of ‘Team DAAT’, which includes about 60 runners. We wish them all the best of luck on the day, and look forward to cheering them on.”
Jill Headford, partner at Tozers, commented: “We are delighted to be title sponsors of Exeter’s Great West Run and even more pleased that our charity of the year, DAAT, became the local charity partner of the run this year too. We have over 20 runners from Tozers taking part on 19 October and we hope the Great West Run will raise a significant sum of money for Devon Air Ambulance. I will be there on the day to support all those participating.”
Exeter’s Great West Run will take place on Sunday 19th October.
