Our interview process is designed to give us the best insight into your technical abilities, approach, attitude, values and behaviours. It is an opportunity for you to share your experience, skills and ideas and for you to find out more about the organisation, the role, our values and our culture.

We want you to feel comfortable, relaxed and prepared for your interview so we hope the guide below offers you the information you need to help you to feel at ease.

Please feel free to contact our recruitment team at any point throughout the process if you have any questions or require assistance at recruitment@daat.org.

Our live vacancies can be found here and the ‘Find out more’ button can be used to view more information about the role. When you have found a vacancy that is right for you, you can click the ‘Apply for this job’ button to apply.

You will then be prompted to upload your CV and complete an Application Form. Please note, only your application form will be used for shortlisting, so it is worth ensuring everything you want to include is covered in the application form.

You will also be asked to enter your Equality, Diversity and Inclusion information. Please note that this is strictly used for reporting purposes and will not be a factor in our decision-making process. For more information, you can read our Diversity Statement here.

We advertise our proposed interview dates in advance on the job advert to provide candidates time to plan and ensure they are available.

At Devon Air Ambulance, our shortlisting selection process is anonymised, and all personal information is removed from applications before being presented to the interview panel. This aims to eliminate unconscious bias, encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce.

Our recruitment team will respond to confirm receipt of your application and are always on hand should you have any questions. We pride ourselves in ensuring every applicant receives an update on their application once the vacancy has closed.

Candidates who are shortlisted for an interview will be contacted via telephone, so please ensure your personal details are included within your application. If you are having problems applying online, please contact us at recruitment@daat.org.

Think about how your experience, skills, behaviours and values represent the criteria we are looking for.

Spend some time researching the Charity – you can find some great insights from our website and social media channels.

Analyse the job description ahead of your interview and prepare some examples to share with the interview panel, considering how they fit the criteria and how they reflect your personal involvement.

During the interview, listen carefully to questions and don’t be afraid to ask the interview panel for something to be repeated if you don’t fully understand it. Don't worry if there are distractions during your interview, we are a friendly team and accommodating of the unexpected.

If you are shortlisted we will provide further details on the interview format. Depending on the type of role you have applied for, you may be asked to prepare a presentation or complete an assessment during your interview.

All candidates are required to complete a DISC report. DISC is a personality profile assessment, which measures an individual's preferences and tendencies based on the four key areas: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance. It is important to remember that there is no right or wrong profile, but the assessment offers an interesting insight into your way of working.

Your interview panel will usually be two or three employees of Devon Air Ambulance. This is to reduce any unconscious bias and provide a fair and inclusive recruitment process.

The interview process offers a combination of values, technical and behaviour-based experiences, and the number of interviews for candidates to attend depends on the level of the role you are applying for. We ensure we are consistent with our approach, providing a robust, positive, and effective process for all candidates of all levels.

After your interview, you will always hear back from us via telephone to either provide feedback or invite you to the next stage of the interview process.

Jon, Patient Services Team

The recruitment process was a refreshing change to previous interviews. Although it was conducted remotely, it was still useful and enlightening (for both parties) and, remarkably, enjoyable...! Like many, I associate job interviews with a feeling of great stress and anxiety. Yet, by the end of the second interview, I was almost completely at ease. Mutual respect, honesty and a sense of humour can go a long way and it began to become obvious that the character and general personality of the applicant was considered to be of just as great an importance as their ability to do the job.
