The Real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate based on what people need to get by. That hourly sum is £9.50 across the UK and £10.85 in London for anyone aged 18 and over.

The real Living Wage is a wage that meets the cost of living - not just the Government’s minimum, which is just £8.72 for over 25s and £8.20 for 21 and older. 

Devon Air Ambulance believes in a fair wage for a fair day’s work. There are lots of benefits to being a Real Living Wage employer. It shows staff that their employer cares about them and their quality of life, helps increase staff motivation and improves retention rates. 

Martin Bell, Retail & People Development Director at Devon Air Ambulance, says:

This is our sixth year as a Real Living Wage employer. It’s never been more important to make sure staff are earning enough to be able to absorb the cost of living.

It’s also very important for us to hold onto the staff we recruit, not only because recruitment is costly both in terms of money and time, but because we want to keep those skills within the organisation and help the charity to flourish. Earning a fair wage makes it easier for staff to commit to lending their skills to the service. We want to make sure our suppliers are paid the Real Living Wage too, so we ensure any third-party contractors meet this standard.

Times are hard for many of us; earning enough to live on should be the least of our worries.
