The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most eye colourful Devon Air Ambulance annual events in our calendar. For the past four years, teams of dynamic Dragon Boat rowers don team colours and silly hats to make their tribes distinct to the others. But what unites all teams (other than a desire to win!), is the cause, which is to raise funds for the charity and to keep Devon's Air Ambulances serving the people of Devon.

Last year the event raised £20,000, which is generated through sponsorship raised by participants. Teams often include groups of friends, colleagues, and rowing groups, each keen to be crowned champion! To date the event has raised a massive £60,000.

We're really looking forward to this year's event and we already have eight teams confirmed. Here's a short introduction to each of them.

Arconic is one of the event's most committed teams as they have entered every year since the Festival's inception back in 2014. The team came third twice, once in 2015 and again in 2016, but thanks to their dedication they became Festival champions last year! To date they have raised a over £6,000. Who is ready to take them on?

JFE Nissan Exeter

JFE Nissan is another team that's been with us from the start. For these guys the event serves as a staff team building day. And what could be more unifying than the rush and adrenaline of one of Exeter's most popular races? They don't begrudge not having got close to winning yet, as they have nevertheless raised a fantastic £3,500 for us.

Sparkle Warriors

Sara Fox and her team really do bring the sparkle, as they row adorned in tinsel and stars. The Crediton-based team raises money in memory of Samuel Crocker, a young lad who unfortunately was involved in a traffic incident and although he was airlifted, sadly later passed away.  United by Samuel's memory the team put everything into the race, which makes a very positive contribution to other patients who need emergency help from Devon Air Ambulance.

Team BT

The BT team entered the Festival for the first time in 2017 and were proud to secure a very worthy second place! They are based at Middlemoor and, like JFE Nissan, enjoy the event for the purpose of team building. The camaraderie, the focus, the collaboration, are all ingredients that make a team great.

BCT Warriors

Devon Air Ambulance was one of BCT's Charities of the Year in 2017, and they have decided to support us again with the Dragonboat Festival this year. Last year the team raised £1,200 for the charity by taking part.

Salcombe Estuary Rowers

The Salcombe Estuary Rowers took part in the 2016 Dragon Boat Festival, but after a year's respite are taking to the waters again! Although they've yet to secure a place on the podium, they have succeeded in raising the greatest amount of money by any team to date of over £3,500!

Westerly BMW

Welcome to Westerly BMW who are joining us for the first time this year (hence no photograph!). We look forward to seeing you in action and thank you in advance for lending us your support.

There's still time to get your team signed up!

Any group of individuals can enter as long as there are a minimum of 16 people and you can cover the entry fee and raise the baseline level of sponsorship. You don't have to race as part of a business or an organisation, but if you do want to get your colleagues on board then be sure to tell them about it! The event is an excellent opportunity for unifying a team and a great day out too.

The occasion is also a fantastic one for friends and family to come along to support you, and with the restaurants and bars on the Quay, an opportunity to reward yourself with a well deserved tipple of choice afterwards is readily available!
