One Saturday in August 1994, Jenny Buckle had planned to extract the honey from her five colonies of honeybees. Instead, she found herself hitching a ride in our air ambulance. Debbie had fallen through a pane in her greenhouse, seriously damaging her right arm. The period that followed involved a great deal of personal effort and medical support to encourage Jenny's wrist and fingers to work again.

"I'm lucky to be alive," says Jenny. "Had it not been for the speed of the Air Ambulance and the treatment given to me by paramedics, I would certainly have lost my arm."

Since the accident Jenny has worked tirelessly to raise funds for the charity, visiting scout groups and giving talks to help raise awareness and funds for us. She has also written two books inspired by her lucky escape, and has embraced the utility she has in her hands to do so. We are very thankful to patients like Jenny who have used their enthusiasm for the charity to raise funds for others who find they need to call upon our Devon-wide service.
