As a registered charity, DAAT has a board of Trustees, including a Chairman and Vice Chairman.  They serve for a period of 3 years, with a maximum tender of 6 years.  The Chief Executive is responsible for the day to day operations of the charity, and is answerable to the board of Trustees.

Being a Trustee brings with it many important responsibilities:-

Compliance
To control the management and administration of a charity.  When becoming a Trustee you accept ultimate responsibility to ensure solvency, that the charity is well run, and run for the benefit of the people it was set up to help.  A Trustee has to ensure charity law set up by the Charity Commission as regulator, plus other rules and regulations are adhered to and that regular reports and annual accounts are submitted.

Duty of Prudence
To ensure they are up-to-date of the charity's financial position, ensure any funds and assets are invested wisely and that the good name of the charity is not led into disrepute.

Duty of Care
To exercise reasonable care and skill and use personal skills and experiences in order to ensure the charity is working efficiently and well run.  Where a particular skill is needed, which is not available, also asking for external help and advice.

Our Trustees

Jackie Dawkins - Chair of Trustees
Jackie was 054 DAAT Apr 29 2009 a born in Bideford, North Devon, then moved to Exeter in 1983, where and worked in a variety of businesses before “falling” into recruitment in 1986.  She was a founding Director of Cathedral Appointments in 1988 and became a Fellow of the Institute of Recruitment Professionals. 

Jackie set up Shine Charity Recruitment at the beginning of 2010 to concentrate on working with the charity sector.   She became a Trustee of Devon Air Ambulance in 2008 and Chair of Trustees in 2009.  Jackie lives in Mid-Devon.


Lt Cdr Jack Lomas DSC, RN Retd - Vice Chair of Trustees
061 DAAT Apr 29 2009 Jack was born in Barnstaple in 1948.  He joined the Royal Navy as a helicopter pilot in 1966 and served throughout the world in many countries and on various ships, specialising as a weapons expert.   He commanded a Royal Marine support Squadron during the Falklands War.   He left the Navy in 1991 after two years running the counter-terrorist and Search and Rescue Squadron at Portland.  After an 18 month sabatical travelling the world, he returned to UK and became the Senior Pilot of the family run company, Lomas Helicopters, based in Bideford.

Jack retired from active commercial flying operation in 2004.   He joined Devon Air Ambulance Trust as a Trustee in 2009,  with special interest in air operations.  One of his first roles was to help set up the new airbase build at Eaglescott.  Jack has been married twice, has 5 children and 5 grandchildren and lives with his wife and two children in Northam, Bideford.

Anita Newcombe
Anita Newcombe Anita Newcombe owns and manages Anita Newcombe Media & PR, which provides media, public relations, sales, marketing and training services.   She spent eight years as Publisher and Managing Editor of the hugely popular Devon Life magazine and its sister titles in the South West.  She successfully launched Cornwall Life magazine, Wiltshire magazine, Bride magazine and managed Somerset Life magazine, Dorset magazine and a host of websites.
 
She has many years experience in the charitable sector, working in marketing, public relations and fundraising at Paignton Zoo and Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust.  Anita lives in Brixham with husband Richard. They have four grown up children.


Paul Persey
084 DAAT Apr 29 2009 Paul was born to a farming family near Cullompton in 1948. He has worked in various parts of the clothing industry since leaving University in 1969 and with his wife he moved back to Devon in 1974 to open retail shops across the county. Since then the family has been involved in various clothing businesses including manufacturing and importing. “I like to describe myself as semi-retired but in truth business is as engrossing as ever”.

“I can’t imagine anyone ever wanting to live anywhere other than Devon, and for me the Air Ambulance is the perfect Charity to be involved with. I think we all know someone who has been helped by the service and it is very inspiring to see such a level of local involvement in keeping it funded. The Management Team have a tremendous commitment to seeing the Charity continue to increase it’s operational effectiveness and it’s financial stability”.
Paul has three daughters and a gang (hopefully still growing) of three grand-children.

Bill Price
Bill Price Bill spent most of his working life in Investment Banking and Corporate Finance. Having been part of the project team that brought in the Electronic Trading System at the London Stock Exchange, he moved in 2000 to the South West Regional Development Agency as the Deputy Director for Enterprise and Innovation. Now retired Bill juggles his time between walking his dogs, sailing and charitable activities. In the last few years he has helped organise the Branscombe Airday and Classic Car Show and is now helping to organise the Grizzly. Bill is passionate about the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and feels “ that it is a privilege to be a trustee and a volunteer for such a worthwhile cause and such a fantastic team.”


Phil Roberts
068 DAAT Apr 29 2009 A Bristolian by birth Phil was educated in Gloucestershire before commencing a career in Banking which saw him live in five different counties before finishing his time in this industry in London.  Phil moved back to the West Country in 1996 with his wife Sandra and three children.

"We moved to village on the edge of Dartmoor and I remember being in the local pub one evening, trying to decide which charity box on the bar to donate to. I was strongly advised by locals to support the Devon Air Ambulance as living where we did I may need their help one day!"

Luckily Phil has not required the services of the DAAT but has met many who have. "When you hear the stories of how peoples lives have been so positively affected by the service provided by the Devon Air Ambulance it is easy to understand why the people of Devon feel so passionate about supporting the charity"

Mark Tyler
Mark Tyler

Mark Tyler is a news and sport broadcast journalist based in Exeter, Devon. He is an experienced Producer and Presenter for BBC Radio and ITV and consummate conference host and Master of Ceremonies.  With audio, video and digital editing skills, he is now combining regular broadcast work with independent productions and PR projects.

Following his training in Broadcast Journalism in 1984, Mark spent 5 years as a reporter/newsreader/producer for BBC radio, based in Birmingham and Exeter.  Mark joined the Plymouth-based Television South West as Deputy Sports Editor in 1989, and in late 1990 moved to LWT to report on the football programme ‘Saint and Greavsie’.  Mark returned to South West as Head of Sport for ITV Westcountry in 1993, and in addition to sport production and presentation, he also regularly anchors the 6pm regional news programme.

Since leaving ITV in Summer 2009, Mark has continued broadcasting while taking on long term independent TV commissions through his ‘Sound and Vision Media’ company.  Mark has also hosted conferences for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Sport England, the Football Association and Devon County Council.  He is married with two young children.
