Team Tetrathlon Rides Again
Added on: 24 August 2010
After the success of the last 5 years event, this year’s 2010 Team Tetrathlon is once again taking place on Sunday 29th August at West Molland Barton (nr South Molton) a spectacular setting right on the edge of open moorland.
For those not familiar with Tetrathlon there are four phases which are: Equine cross country; Running; Mountain biking and Clay pigeon shooting.
In the individual challenge the contestants compete over all four disciplines and in the team event each competitor undertakes one phase each. The class categories are Open, Family and Hunt.
The events entries have increased in numbers and popularity over the years with all standards represented and this year a few new teams have registered their interest, so why not join them, come along as either a team entry, a spectator or a very welcome supporter of Devon Air Ambulance? The entry fee is £40 per team and the spectator’s entry is £10 per family car or £5 if you are a single occupant.
Caroline Creer, Devon Air Ambulance Trust’s Fundraising Director said ‘The fantastic support of the Tetrathlon helps keep our helicopters flying. A big thank you to Fran Bell and Clair Mills and committee members of the Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds Young Supporters Club for organising this event and the sponsors, the Dartmoor Medical Team and Timepiece Wine bar and nightclub’.
Caroline added ‘ On the day there will be a bouncy castle, Terrier and Lurcher racing, Tug O’war and Open clay pigeon shooting, with a £50 prize going to the highest gun. There is also a delicious hog roast and a fully licensed bar. It really does promise to be a great day out for competitors and spectators alike’.
Fran Bell, Tetrathlon Organiser said ‘We often find ourselves riding across the remotest areas of Exmoor which is inaccessible to vehicles. It is a wonderful peace of mind to know that should anything go wrong, you can rely on the Air Ambulance, for which we are hugely indebted. My own boyfriend was airlifted a couple of years ago when he managed to put a chainsaw through his leg. He was in a remote location, and with severe blood loss, needed medical treatment quickly.’
