South Molton sings Messiah

Added on: 7 November 2011

Fans of Handel’s Messiah are in for a real treat on Saturday 27th November when, after weeks of rehearsals, over 200 choristers from across the West Country come together and will be performing at South Molton Pannier Market.  There will also be entertainment provided by the South Molton band.

This performance has been supported by local business community sponsorship and local churches and parish organisations co-ordinating various fundraising events.  All funds raised from the event will go to the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal and a new Chemotherapy Unit at North Devon District Hospital.

John Parkhouse, Chairman of the South Molton Singers, explains, “ This is a major community project which will use the joy of singing to raise money for these wonderful charities.  The Chemotherapy Unit is urgently looking to updates its facilities and you never know when any of us might have need of the Air Ambulance, it’s a vital service.”

The roof of the Pannier Market is set to raise with a choir of over 200 and an expected audience of 500. Local caterers, Garfields Girls, are offering a hot meat roll with trimmings and South Molton Rotary are providing mulled wine and cakes.  Verney’s Molton ice cream will also be on sale.  Tickets for the performance are available for £5.00, the doors will open at 4.45pm and the show will start at 6.30pm.

Tickets are available from the choristers themselves and at a variety of outlets including the Devon Air Ambulance Trust charity shop in Queen Street, Barnstaple, South Molton Tourist Information Office and the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple.
