New Corporate Supporters Amey Welcomed by Charity
Added on: 11 March 2011
Devon Air Ambulance Trust is delighted and proud to have been chosen as one of the local charities of the year by Amey, who deliver highway maintenance services on behalf of Plymouth City Council.
The Trust, which receives no government money and is funded solely through the generosity of its supporters and volunteers, must raise over £4 million each year to keep two air ambulances airborne, saving lives throughout Devon.
The charity was chosen by Amey staff, who will raise money through fundraising activities as well as using their ‘community involvement days’ to get involved with Trust activities. This allows employees to take a paid day’s leave to help at fundraising and volunteering events.
By offering practical ‘hands on’ assistance as well as donating monies raised, Amey look forward to offering considerable support during their partnership with the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.
Caroline Creer, Director of Fundraising for Devon Air Ambulance Trust was delighted to meet Richard Holifield, Acting General Manager at Amey, at the Exeter Airbase and explained, “We are so grateful to Richard and all the staff at Amey for their support and enthusiastic approach to fundraising for us. ‘The Gift of Time’ is invaluable to us; we commend Amey for their initiative of ‘community involvement days’ and we really look forward to working closely together”.
Richard Holifield, says, “We are extremely proud to be working with the Devon Air Ambulance Trust as one of our 2011 charities of the year. As well as fundraising, we will be looking to contribute our time and manpower to support the great work that they do. Everybody has the potential to find themselves in an emergency situation where the swift response of the Trust could literally make the difference between life and death. It is a cause everyone can relate to and see the real value in and it is vital that their work continues”.
In addition to the monies raised by employees, Amey has pledged to match fund up to £1000.
Devon's extensive road network, the remote countryside and rugged coastline mean precious minutes can be saved by the deployment of the air ambulance to the scene of an accident or medical emergency. The trust operates two air ambulances, 10 hours a day, 365 days a year. Between them they can reach 50% of Devon within five minutes, and the remainder within 20, meaning urgent medical treatment is administered as soon as possible.
