New Chairman and Vice Chairman Appointed
Added on: 5 October 2009
The Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) has appointed a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman of their Board of Trustees.
Jackie Dawkins, a Director of Cathedral Appointments in Exeter becomes the Trust’s first female Chairman, while retired Naval Officer and Helicopter Company Director Jack Lomas of Bideford takes up the role of Vice Chairman.
Jackie Dawkins, who has been a Trustee since 2008, was quick to acknowledge the role played by her predecessor Doug Shopland, who retired after serving the maximum 6 years as a Trustee, the last two as Chairman.
She said: “Doug has done a marvelous job during a really important phase in the Trust’s development, particularly overseeing the purchase of our own EC135 helicopter. His role in advising the Board and Senior Management Team, as well as maintaining the reputation of DAAT has been superb.
“In recent years a major part of DAAT’s strategic development has been reviewing its corporate Governance which is at the heart of the role of a Trustee. I am committed to continuing with this in order to ensure the Trust remains open and transparent in everything it does. This ensures that the people of Devon, who work tirelessly to fund this essential lifesaving service, can be confident that their money is well used.
“I am delighted with my appointment as Chairman of such a cherished charity. I look forward to leading the strategic development and consolidating its reputation as one of the best managed charities in the UK.”
Jack Lomas said “I am delighted to take up the post of Vice Chairman and very much look forward to the challenges which lie ahead. I have now been a Trustee with the charity for 18 months, with special responsibility as Chairman of the Operations Sub Committee, dealing specifically with the build of the new airbase at Eaglescott Airfield in North Devon. I am very much enjoying the time spent working with the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and sharing the knowledge that I have, to the benefit of the charity.”
