It's volunteers week - why not make a difference and donate the gift of time?

Added on: 3 June 2010

This week from 1st to 7th June is National Volunteers Week.  A week to promote what volunteering is, and the difference that volunteering can make not only to the charity, but also to the volunteer.

Heléna Holt, Chief Executive of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust said ‘We really couldn’t do without our 200+ volunteers, who all make a great deal of difference to the charity and the community that the service and charity serve.’

She added ‘With a small  team of staff, it would be impossible to attend every event we are asked to go along to, let alone run our 9 charity shops, or empty and service the 5000 collection boxes we have across the county.  This is where our fantastic volunteers come into their own.   As well as the tasks already mentioned volunteers also attend cheque presentations, give talks on the work of the charity/service, attend events with fundraising stands, to name just a few.’

Volunteering is something for everyone no matter what your age or ability.  It’s something that you can do just for a few hours occasionally or on a more regular basis.  It looks good on your CV and is a great way of getting out, socialising and making new friends.

If you would like to find out how you can also make a difference by donating the gift of time to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust please get in touch with Debbie Collingwood on 01392 466666 or email d.collingwood@daat.org  Alternatively if you are looking to volunteer in one of our charity shops, why not pop into your local one and find out more information from the manager or assistant manager, and chat to some of the fantastic volunteers already working there!
