Devon Dumplings turn into Devon Darlings for BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal

Added on: 14 April 2011

Every year gyms and Health Centres are inundated with new members eager to get ‘bikini beautiful’ in time for summer, yet a quarter of all gym members drop out within 3 months of signing up and 80% are not using it but still paying for the privilege of being a member.

One local woman has challenged Devon to change the way they think about fitness and over the past three months has become better known to the region as ‘Trainer Claire’ after she agreed to support BBC Radio Devon’s Good Morning Devon crew on a 3 month fitness and training regime helping them to raise money for the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal whilst improving their own physical well being.

Claire Morgan-Hughes, qualified Circuits and Personal Trainer and Gym Instructor, has worked hard with the BBC team and will reveal the astounding results on stage at the launch of Devon Fit Camp in April at a party that will also raise funds for the appeal.

Caroline Creer, Fundraising Director of Devon Air Ambulance Trust said ‘On behalf of the Charity I would like to thank Claire for her support of the Appeal, which is very much appreciated.  Please go along and pledge your support for this fantastic event.’

“The hardest thing when you start anything new is to keep motivated,” explained Claire. “Individuals are often very keen at the start of a New Year but enthusiasm wains over time.  If, however, they are committed to a specific training programme three times a week, and working in a group for the benefit of all, the results can be amazing.  It takes 21 days to create a habit, so in just three weeks our members can really see a difference; they will be eating healthily, feeling fitter and will even see significant weight loss into the bargain!”

The Good Morning Devon Team, staff and volunteers from Devon Air Ambulance Trust and many other supporters and celebrities will be at the Devon Fit Camp Launch Party on Tuesday 26th April at 7.30pm at The Watermark in Ivybridge, the new library & tourist information centre.  Other local businesses that have pledged their support include Highlands Dental Care, Sportworx, The Ivy Beauty Rooms, The Nearly Naked Veg Company to name a few. There will also be an opportunity to taste Devon Fit Camp friendly nibbles kindly provided by Amazing Taste. Entry is just £5.00 per person – and all proceeds will go to the BBC Radio Devon Air Ambulance Appeal.
