Confusion over Air Ambulance door to door and collection boxes campaign

Added on: 6 February 2012

DAAT Portraits -39Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) is urging supporters throughout Devon to help keep their helicopters flying amid confusion from a new door to door and charity box campaign.

DAAT has been inundated by calls since Childrens’ Air Ambulance started canvassing extensively locally both in general and with regard to their lottery. They have also been urging local businesses to take their collection boxes.

Heléna Holt, Chief Executive of DAAT said: "In the past we have had problems from various organisations and individuals relating to things like bogus charity bag and box collectors.  I do stress that Childrens’ Air Ambulance is a legitimate charity and obviously people are free to support whatever charity or good cause they choose.  However, I would also like to reiterate that DAAT serves the whole community of Devon and this of course includes babies and children whom we attend to on a regular basis, both from the scene of an accident or when ill, and transfers from one hospital to another, if they need specialist treatment urgently.”

"We have had many calls from our supporters all over Devon confused by being approached by the Childrens’ Air Ambulance. They are then contacting us to check where the money is going and whether they are actually supporting the Air Ambulance that serves their community daily. I want to clarify that Childrens’ Air Ambulance is in no way connected to DAAT, nor does it fund us or the childrens transfers we undertake in anyway.”
