Calendar Boys Ring the Bells
Locals at St Austell Brewery’s Ring of Bells in Fore Street, Bishopsteignton, had the chance to enjoy a moment of fame when licensee Martin Thornhill came up with the idea of a “Calendar Boys” for his pool team to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. Word quickly spread around the village and soon there was no shortage of volunteers, all keen to part with their clothes off for a good cause.

Licensee Martin commented, “We had more people who wanted to be involved than we had months available which was surprising! Alan Cooper, one of our locals, arranged for the printing and just nine days after the photographs were taken a calendar appeared.  So far we have sold over 250 calendars at £4.99 each. Anyone wishing to buy one should contact us at the pub.”

Dwayne Peace, St Austell Brewery’s local representative commented further “We always encourage our pubs to raise funds for charities although this is one of the most unusual ways we have for some time.”  However, it is an excellent cause and we are delighted it has proved to be so popular.”

Fundraising Director for Devon Air Ambulance Trust, Caroline Creer, added, “We are always amazed at the innovative ideas people come up with to raise funds to keep our two helicopters flying, and the “Bishop Boys in the Buff” calendar is certainly one of the more ‘creative’ ideas.  Our thanks to all the participants and to everyone who supports the Trust by buying a calendar.”
